This series of photos tells the story of a city — New York — but, more than anything, of New Yorkers.

I tried to "open a window" on its neighborhoods — from Harlem, to the Bronx, from Brooklyn to Manhattan — and to capture the stories of their inhabitants.

This is how these photos were born; the choice of black&white was totally natural, stemming from a personal need to shun any "shining distraction", and to feel — in the sense of empathizing with — the subjects portrayed.

My hope is that, when you look at this photo collection, you can keep dreaming like the children who play under the Brooklyn Bridge, or smile with the African-American families going to Coney Island on Sundays to enjoy a moment all their own.

My hope is that these photos will stir an emotion.
